About CivilCupboard
CivilCupboard publishes carefully researched buying guides, so you can compare products and pick one with confidence.
Right now our guides focus on benchtop workshop machines for home shops, from drill presses and scroll saws to planers, bench grinders and dust collectors, written for hobby woodworkers and DIYers setting up a home shop, and we add new guides over time.
You don't need a pro's vocabulary. We explain the terms that matter, like variable speed, snipe and blade tension, in plain words.
What we cover right now
Our guides cover drill presses, scroll saws, band saws, thickness planers, benchtop jointers, bench grinders, bench vises and dust collectors from brands like WEN, DeWalt, SKIL, JET and Rikon, plus first-machine and shop setup help. We compare models side by side so you can see the trade-offs.
What we do
We read the product details, specs and maker information for every machine we cover. We also look at what buyers often say after using one.
Then we turn it all into plain guides, side-by-side comparisons and clear picks, written in everyday words. You can read more on our How we research page.
What we don't do
We don't sell machines, and no brand pays us to rank its products.
CivilCupboard is an independent site. We aren't affiliated with WEN, DeWalt, SKIL, JET, Rikon or any other tool maker.
We don't give step-by-step machine setups. Read the maker's manual first, because a power tool can cause serious injury.
We don't claim to have tested every product ourselves. When we pick something, we tell you why, based on its specs, its features and buyer feedback.
How we earn money
Some links on this site go to stores like Amazon. If you buy through them, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.
That never changes which products we pick. Our affiliate disclosure has the details.
